Ferrous Sulfate Heptahydrate CAS 7782-63-0
Ferrous sulfate has the chemical formula FeSO₄. It is commonly found as the heptahydrate form, FeSO₄·7H₂O, known colloquially as green vitriol. A pale blue-green monoclinic crystal, it has a density of 1.898 g/cm³ and melts in its crystal water at 64℃ (per Chemicalbook data). Soluble in water, its aqueous solution is acidic. It gradually weathers in air and is oxidized to a yellowish-brown basic iron salt. At 300℃, it loses all crystal water, and the anhydrous form appears as a white powder.

product advantage
1. High Cost-Effectiveness: Raw materials are easily accessible (produced from iron scraps and waste acid recovery), resulting in low production costs. It is suitable for large-scale industrial and agricultural applications, with significantly higher cost-performance than similar iron-based compounds.
2. Highly Active Iron Source: Featuring highly active Fe²⁺ ions, it is readily absorbed and utilized by plants, water bodies, or the human body, demonstrating outstanding efficiency in scenarios such as iron supplementation and phosphorus removal.
3. Multi-Functional Adaptability: It integrates multiple functions including flocculation, pH adjustment, nutrient supplementation, and redox, boasting wide cross-industry applicability without the need for matching multiple auxiliary agents.
4. Environmental Friendliness: Derived from natural minerals or prepared via industrial waste recovery, it poses no risk of secondary pollution. Its decomposition products (iron salts and sulfates) are mild to the environment, complying with green production standards.
5. Easy Operation and Dissolution: It dissolves quickly in water at room temperature without special dissolution conditions. It can be directly diluted for use, adapting to existing production and treatment processes without the need for equipment modification.
product application
1. Water Treatment
•Serves as a flocculant for drinking water, industrial wastewater (printing and dyeing, electroplating, chemical industry), and domestic sewage, rapidly precipitating suspended solids, organic matter, and heavy metal ions to reduce turbidity.
•Acts as a phosphorus remover to efficiently remove phosphate, preventing water eutrophication and improving water quality.
•Functions as an acid adjustment aid to neutralize alkaline wastewater and optimize the pH environment of water treatment systems.
2. Agriculture and Animal Husbandry
•Used as an iron-supplement fertilizer for plants to correct iron-deficiency chlorosis in crops such as rice, wheat, fruits, and vegetables, enhance photosynthesis, and improve yield and quality.
•Serves as a soil amendment to lower the pH value of alkaline soil, improve soil structure, and enhance soil fertility.
•Acts as a feed additive for livestock and poultry to supplement iron for chickens, pigs, and aquatic products, prevent iron-deficiency anemia, and promote growth and development.
3. Industrial Manufacturing
•Pigment industry: Produces inorganic pigments such as iron oxide red and iron oxide yellow, which are used in coatings, building materials, inks, and other products.
•Textile printing and dyeing: Serves as a mordant to enhance the adhesion between dyes and fibers and improve color fastness.
•Wood processing: Prepares wood preservatives to extend the service life of wood, suitable for outdoor buildings, furniture, etc.
•Battery materials: Used as a raw material for lithium batteries and storage batteries to provide iron sources and improve the electrochemical performance of batteries.
•Chemical reagents: Applied in laboratory analysis, catalyst preparation, and as a component of electroplating solutions in the electroplating industry.
4. Medicine and Healthcare
•Pharmaceutical raw material: Produces oral anti-anemia drugs (such as ferrous sulfate tablets and syrups) for the treatment of iron-deficiency anemia in humans.
•Nutritional supplement: Added to health products and infant food to prevent iron deficiency during pregnancy and growth periods.
