    TEP is an exceptionally strong solvent for a wide range of polymers, resins, and organic substances, including cellulose acetate, nitrocellulose, and many resins.

    It serves as a high-boiling-point solvent in coatings, inks, and adhesives, helping to retard drying time and improve flow and leveling.

    2. High Reactivity & Versatile Intermediate

    This is one of TEP's most significant advantages. Its ethyl groups are readily displaceable through hydrolysis or transesterification, making it a key precursor for synthesizing numerous high-value chemicals.

    It is most notably a critical intermediate in the production of the herbicide glyphosate.

    It is also used to synthesize other organophosphorus compounds, including pesticides, pharmaceuticals, and other phosphate esters.

    • Pesticide Manufacture: This is the single largest application for TEP. It is a fundamental raw material in the production of the widely used herbicide glyphosate.

    • Pharmaceuticals & Fine Chemicals: Used as an intermediate in the synthesis of certain pharmaceuticals (e.g., analgesics) and other fine chemicals.

    • Flame Retardant Synthesis: Serves as a starting material for synthesizing other, more complex phosphate ester flame retardants.

    2. Solvent

    • Specialty Coatings & Inks: Used as a solvent in cellulose lacquers, high-quality inks, and coatings, where high solvating power and controlled evaporation are required.

    • Extraction Agent: Employed as a solvent for the extraction of aromatics from hydrocarbon streams and in the separation of rare metals.

    • Lithium-Ion Battery Electrolyte Additive: Researched as a flame-retardant additive in electrolytes to improve battery safety, though challenges with electrode material compatibility remain.

    3. Plasticizer
