Monoethanolamine is one of the basic chemical raw materials. In the pharmaceutical industry, it is used to synthesize L-cysteamine hydrochloride, taurine, anti-infective drugs such as furazolidone, moroxydine, ketoconazole, the antiparasitic drug tetramisole, and the cardiovascular drug dipyridamole. In the veterinary drug industry, it is used to synthesize olaquindox. It is also used in the synthesis of polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP), ethyleneimine, and polyethyleneimine; the synthesis of ethylenediamine as a fine chemical raw material; fluorescent brighteners in the textile industry; synthetic dyes in the dyeing industry; neutralizers in the rubber industry and carbon black industry. It is also used in the production of surfactants, rust inhibitors, cleaning agents, preservatives, and paints.
